About Dog Age Calculation

The old rule that one dog year equals seven human years is actually not accurate. Dogs mature more quickly than humans in their early years, and the aging process slows down as they get older.

Modern veterinary research shows that:

• A dog's first year is equivalent to about 15 human years
• The second year adds about 9 more human years
• Each year after that adds approximately 4-5 human years

Size and breed also affect aging. Larger breeds tend to have shorter lifespans and may age more quickly than smaller dogs.
